Condolence: I was a student teacher under Joanne in the 1990’s and was so sorry to hear of her passing. She really was a remarkable person and I could not have found a better mentor… she was so passionate about teaching and her depth of knowledge and insight made her history lessons exciting, inspiring and so relevant to her students. She always tried to bring out the best in everyone and was so generous in sharing her impressive knowledge in many fields. She truly made learning fun with her wit and great sense of humour. I also remember her sincere interest in others, always underpinned with thoughtfulness and kindness. Although it’s been over twenty years since our paths crossed, I still keep her reports on my progress as a student teacher as a reminder of a special moment in time with a truly unique and wonderful person. My sincere condolences to the family on the loss of your much loved sister.

Condolence: I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Joanne. She was a lovely teacher and she inspired so many. I will always remember her history classes and her love of teaching. Joanne and her encouragement was the reason I decided to join student council and take on a leadership role. She will be missed.

Condolence: Joanne and I met sitting at the same table in Miss Gordon's School Librarianship class at Althouse College in September of 1971. Her wit and wisdom delighted me then and throughout the years since. Her friendship was a gift that enriched my life. My thoughts are with the family as I share in their grief.
